There is high level of description in each line, which is complemented by the high word level used. However this excessive description is contrasted by the lack of correct use of language, such as lack of quotations. His high description creates heavy imagery for the reader, to allow the reader to personally connect with the characters.
The tone is dark and suspicious. We read dark and scary description of the wood at night. The ghost town is described very clearly since the tone being used is creepy and scary.
We are still being introduced with the man and boy who continue walking southeast to the cost.
The structure is chronologically ordered, with flashbacks of the man memories with his wife added within the story in order to add context to some events. The story represents the continued breakdown of the Status quo from the beginning.
