Housing Insecurity: A barrier to health and civic participation

People experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity must overcome incredibly steep barriers to navigate their circumstances, achieve health, and live full lives. The system we live in treats housing as an individual concern and a source of capital, rather than as a basic human right essential to achieving health equity. In this interview Damian Lima, an MPH@Simmons alum and formerly unhoused person, and Sam Geheran, an MPH@Simmons student who works for a housing nonprofit, reflect on the shortcomings of the current system and the structural changes, including public financing and voting, necessary to make sure that no one experiences homelessness.
