August 1, 2022
2021-2022 has been a tough year for all of us. While the days of the pandemic were slowing daily life in the United States, many of us in the Simmons MPH program were still going strong. While remaining in classes and juggling challenges of the multiple facets of our lives, HERE4Justice launched two campaigns!
During Summer 2021, we initiated a campaign to ground our members and supporters in the definition of reproductive justice and how the links between sexual health and reproductive health operate in our society. We shared important terms, perspectives, and challenges related to reproductive justice to understand in our efforts to advance health equity.
In Winter 2022, HERE4Justice launched a blog series on COVID-19 and pandemic inequities, inviting the Simmons MPH community to submit artistic, creative, or more traditional blog posts. This created a platform for students, faculty, and alumni to reflect collectively on COVID-19 pandemic-related inequities that individuals, families, and communities have faced and continue to face every day. As this MPH program is focused on health equity and addressing systemic and structural barriers to health, HERE4Justice finds it critical to call attention to the injustices of the pandemic that have caused unnecessary suffering and death, especially among poor people and communities of color.
At the end of the year, in July 2022, two of our leaders graduated from the MPH program.
Sakina Musa and Roxanne James (Cohort 7) moved on to the next stages of their public health careers.
Congratulations! 🥳 🥳 🥳
