March 11, 2022 marked two years since the World Health Organisation designated COVID-19 a pandemic. Over these past two years we’ve each uniquely felt and seen the deep social, economic, and even political consequences of the pandemic on our own health and lives as well as our loved ones.
We've also witnessed the inequitable burden of the pandemic, with governments discounting some of the most at-risk populations policy decisions purported to slow the spread of the disease and save lives. From school closures and shortages of PPE for service and health care workers to unequal vaccine access in the US and globally, many aspects of the pandemic played out along the same lines of social injustice most of us are, sadly, accustomed to.
This blog series aims to underline and share stories of the inequitable impacts of the pandemic that unfolded on top of existing systemic and structural barriers to people's health and well-being, such as racism, poverty, and discrimination. We invite submissions in written or visual format sharing personal stories, insights, or research across a range of topics.
