Online discussions

What are Online Discussion Forums and What Can I do With Them?

Online Discussion Forums are places where students and instructors can hold conversations in the form of posted messages and responses. Discussion Forums are asynchronous, which provides students with more time to reflect and compose their responses.

In this section we present a variety of resources relating to Online Discussion Forums, the possible use scenarios; avenues of support and an opportunity to learn more about it in an upcoming Tech Breakfast session being held in early November 2017.

Breakfast Byte for Learning with Technology

Online Discussions; Beyond Post and Respond

Tuesday, November 6, 9:30 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. in P113

Co-Sponsored by the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Simmons Technology

Many of us utilize–or would like to utilize–online discussion boards in our classes. We want this to be an engaging and meaningful learning experience for our students whether we teach online courses, use this tool for a particular assignment, or want it as a backup when class can’t meet in person. In this session, we will look at the Discussion Forum tool in Simmons Moodle and explore ways that this resource can foster deep learning. We will consider learning outcomes, student tasks, as well as ideas for integrating creative engagement in graduate and undergraduate courses.
