Turning five and starting school is such an exciting time for families. It can also be overwhelming at first with a million things to have to remember and do for the very first time! It is our mission to ensure there is a seamless and happy transition to school for both the child and parents. Within this website you will find all the information you need to know about our unique kura, as well as essential information regarding the starting of school for your five year old.

The Reception Room
All 5 year old children that are starting at Silverdale School for the first time will start in the Reception Room. Their first teacher will be Mrs Therese Visser.
Students who start in the Reception Room with Therese will remain in reception for approximately 5 to 10 weeks. When we have a group of students ready, they will transfer care into the primary care of another teacher who will have already been working alongside Therese in the same space.
Some children may stay with Therese longer depending on social, emotional and academic needs, or until a balance class list of children can be made.
The main purpose behind the Reception Room is to ensure that all children have the same safe, happy and positive transition to school. It will also ensure that every parent receives the same welcome and information about Silverdale School.
