B. Database Preparation

By the end of this lesson, you will have installed FLEx on your personal computer, and you will know where to find the download packages for updated versions in the future.

By the end of this lesson, you will have downloaded a sample FLEx database (project), restored it, and then closed and opened it.

By the end of this lesson, you will have learned how to navigate the areas, views, and panes of FLEx needed for basic lexicography.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to use the menus, toolbars, and keyboard shortcuts in FLEx.

By the end of this lesson, you will have created a new FLEx database and correctly configured the desired writing systems for both the vernacular and analysis languages.

By the end of this lesson, you will have added a new vernacular writing system and several new analysis writing systems to the project you set up in the previous lesson. You also will be familiar with all the tabs in the Writing System Properties dialog box, along with the properties and options they provide.

By the end of this lesson, you will:

  • understand what is involved in managing a FLEx database (project)

  • understand why and how to use Backup/Restore in FLEx

  • understand how to Archive in REAP1 using RAMP2


By the end of this lesson, you will:

  • understand why and how to share a lexical data project

  • have created a personal account on Language Depot and used Send/Receive to download a new project from Language Depot

  • understand how to upload a new master project to Language Depot to share with your team
