Professional Development

Summer 2024 -  Week of August  19

For new teachers, we will be offering a week  of professional development at Siena the week of  August 19 (2024) from 8:30am-3pm.  For veteran teachers, join us on one of those days (TBD) to talk with the new teachers about your experiences and activities/information about equity and diversity in CS both at upstate NY high schools in our group, in NYS, and nationally.  See the PD landing page to see what we did last summer (2023).

We also meet twice per month during the school year for professional development or as needed.   If our grant funding is approved, teachers offering the Discovering CS course or the CSIS110 Introduction to CS with Python and Multimedia dual-enrollment course receive (modest) stipends for attending professional development. In addition, participating teachers can take Siena CS courses for free and they may count towards a second certification in NYS.  If you are planning on teaching one of Siena's dual-enrollment courses, this is a great way to prepare!

In the fall we usually offer CSIS110 and CSIS180 at Siena with a remote option for teachers.  In the spring we usually offer CSIS120 and CSIS207.

If you are a partnering teacher and are interested in taking either class, please contact Robin Flatland (flatland@siena.edu).
