Network HEART Projects, formerly Network Summer Service Projects, were established in 1989. Unique to our Network, these projects serve as a reminder of the importance of being part of a larger community. Sacred Heart Schools are united in a shared mission: to educate whole persons who live with purpose, integrity, and compassion. Our education fosters active faith, critical thought, and a lifelong commitment to service. This mission extends beyond the classroom. It lives in our relationships, our communities, and in the adults who accompany students each day. Every adult in our community is a Sacred Heart Educator, shaping students not just through instruction, but through presence and example.
Network Heart Projects are an extension of this mission. Rooted in the vision of St. Madeleine Sophie, these immersive service-learning experiences reflect our commitment to form students who engage the world with courage and care. These projects are made possible through shared values, a deep understanding of community, and strong collaboration between schools, community members and the Network Office.
Rooted in the Goals and Criteria, Network HEART Projects offer immersive service learning experiences that prepare students to serve the common good and promote the inherent dignity of all humans. Guided by Catholic Social Teaching and using the Sacred Heart Way, Network participants come together to examine social justice issues and different world realities. These programs educate to informed action and active citizenship through critical analysis, reciprocity, community partnerships, and self-reflection.
Network HEART Projects educate students on the complexities and realities of social justice issues, forming individuals who:
Examine their own life experiences and personal biases, recognizing how these shape their perspectives and influence their understanding of the world.
Engage in contemplative practices to seek truth and work for justice.
Demonstrate a genuine understanding of community and care for others that is reflective of the attitudes of Christ’s heart.
Commit themselves to act with purpose and personal agency to eradicate social structures that perpetuate injustice.
