Course Overview:
Following NYS Standards STUDIO IN ART
Prerequisite: None Time: ½ year
This foundation course satisfies New York State’s Art/Music graduation requirement. Students will have the opportunity to work with a variety of materials including pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, crayon, watercolor and tempera. Students learn the basic concepts of drawing and design and its application to still life, landscape and the figure. An introduction to art historical movements will be woven throughout, so that students will develop familiarity with diverse styles and techniques.
The Elements of Art: Line, Shape , Color, Value, Texture, Space and Form
The Principles of Design: Pattern, Contrast, Emphasis, Balance, Scale, Harmony, Rhythm/Movement, Unity, and Variety
Techniques for Drawing, Painting and 2D and 3D Design
Art History
Classroom Rules:
All students will be in the classroom ON TIME and in their assigned seats
All students will keep the area clean
You must respect the teacher, your peers, the materials and the Art room.
NO FOUL Language
NO Cell phones
Only Positive comments and No Negative comments.
Classroom Procedures:
The first five minutes the teacher will take attendance for all students
All students must keep supplies on the shelf .
All students must bring Chromebooks / charged to class
All students must have a sketchbook to complete sketchbook assignments
Students will enter the room, go to their assigned shelf's take out their folder and supplies and be seated at their assigned seats.
All assignments are on Google classroom with how to videos on all assignments.
5 minutes before the end of class all students will clean up and put their supplies and put folders back on their assigned shelfs.
To encourage students to follow our rules, I will support appropriate behavior with praise, notes and positive calls home.
However, if a student chooses to break a rule, the following steps will be taken:
Warnings up to three
Phone call home
Go to the Discipline Office/ Disciplinary write up/ Phone call home
Grading Policy The grade for this course is based on studio projects, planning, participation, critiques, research, art criticism, presentations, and Sketchbook assignments which will be done during virtual learning. Studio projects are graded according to rubrics that include areas of assessment such as: effort, demonstrated knowledge of concept, classroom working habits, composition, and use of media. Overall grade is calculated on the following scale:
75% In school Projects
25% Attendance and participation ex. DO Nows/ Sketchbook assignments/artist of the month, ed puzzles, pear decks
20% final exam
