Course Overview:

Following NYS Standards STUDIO IN ART

Prerequisite: None Time: ½ year

This foundation course satisfies New York State’s Art/Music graduation requirement. Students will have the opportunity to work with a variety of materials including pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, crayon, watercolor and tempera. Students learn the basic concepts of drawing and design and its application to still life, landscape and the figure. An introduction to art historical movements will be woven throughout, so that students will develop familiarity with diverse styles and techniques.

  • The Elements of Art: Line, Shape , Color, Value, Texture, Space and Form

  • The Principles of Design: Pattern, Contrast, Emphasis, Balance, Scale, Harmony, Rhythm/Movement, Unity, and Variety

  • Techniques for Drawing, Painting and 2D and 3D Design

  • Art History
