Dear Parents and Kiddies~
Hope you are all safe and healthy! Please let your children "experience" math each day! Free them from the chrome book and paper and pencil for a while. Here are a few suggestions/activities to choose from:
review the calendar each day (ask questions such as what will the date be a week from today? How did you figure that out? etc.)
when cooking... involve your kiddies. Measuring, double the recipe, how much time will this take? etc.
make their own daily schedule involving elapsed time. Ex. Math Time~ 9:00-9:30 How many minutes will you be working on math? How much time will be devoted to lessons vs. free time?
playing actual games (Yahtzee, Checkers, Chess, UNO, Monopoly etc.)
puzzles
Create their own mathematical games using cards, dice
LEGOS, blocks
Create their own "Which One Doesn't Belong" (we do this in Math Class)
Jump Rope Addition/Subtraction Facts (example... you say... 4 + 5= ? ~ child responds 9 and has to jump 9 times.) (example...jump 4 sets of 3... How many did you jump? How did you get your answer?)
keep a log of the daily temperature...after a week ask questions and record answers. Which day had the highest temp, the lowest? What was the difference between Tues. and Wed.'s temperature?
Hope these suggestions are helpful. We will continue to post/update other info.
