HOMEWORK

Why we assign homework: We believe homework is important because it is a valuable aid in helping students make the most of their experience in school. Homework is useful in reinforcing what has been learned in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, teaches responsibility, and helps students develop positive study habits.

We will try to assign math homework daily, Monday through Thursday. This will be a review of the concept we learned that day. If your child is struggling, have him/her circle the number of the tricky problem and we will reteach it in school. Homework should take no more than one hour to complete, not including studying for tests, quizzes, and working on projects. Homework will sometimes include short-term assignments, weekly assignments, and Iready reading and math practice. Reading for 20 minutes per night is a must. Twenty minutes of reading will boost your child’s academic performance across the curriculum. When people grow as readers, they grow as learners.

We expect students to complete their homework neatly and to the best of their ability. We will review homework assignments DAILY, so we expect work to be handed in ON TIME. A consequence for handing in late or incomplete assignments includes a loss of independent time to complete the work. A letter will be mailed home indicating each time three assignments have been missed.
