What Kind of Test?

Select one below

There are two types of chi-square tests. Both use the chi-square statistic and distribution for different purposes:

  • A chi-square goodness of fit test determines if a sample data matches a population.

Chi-square Goodness of Fit is a statistical test commonly used to compare observed data with data we would expect to obtain.

Choose this test when you want to test if your data are like what could be expected from the theory (e.g. mendelian inheritance). Were the deviations (differences between observed and expected) the result of chance, or were they due to other factors?
