In 5th Grade, we are using EL Education as our brand new curriculum. It infuses reading and writing together throughout the course of the year and covers all fifth-grade learning targets. It also incorporates many of the structures of EL, including protocols and many opportunities for building a learning community.
Students will cover four modules throughout the school year:
Stories of Human Rights
Biodiversity in the Rainforest
Athletes of Social Change
Impacts of Natural Disasters
Students are expected to read every night at home, but they are not required to fill out reading logs. Reading at home is extremely important and will allow students an opportunity to use skills and strategies learned in class at home. We ask for students to read 20-30 minutes every night. Sometimes I send home homework related to our daily lesson.

Do you follow a particular author? Are you looking for a new author to read? We have a fairly comprehensive list of authors, both past and current. Just click the pic to the right on a section of the alphabet to bring up that list of authors. If you have favorite author who is not listed, let Commander Stanco know via email and he can add it to the list!
