SHOULD KIDS HAVE
HOMEWORK ON WEEKENDS???
by Maia
It’s Friday afternoon, and you are getting ready to go home for the weekends. But wait, you realize that you have to do homework over the weekend! There are some people out there that are okay with having homework over the weekends, and others who aren’t! This is how some students at Lake Bluff feel about this...
Natalia in 5th grade said, “I don’t think that we should have homework on the weekends because people might have stuff to do, like me.”
Quinn in 5th grade said, “Yes, I think that kids should have homework on the weekends because you still have to learn on the weekends!”
Mr. Rosen said, “It depends. If it’s a big project, yes. If it’s not, no!”
This is just my opinion, but I think that you can still learn over the weekends without having homework from school! You don’t JUST have to learn from teachers. You can learn new things from parents, grandparents, friends, and even people younger than you! Of course, I can understand all 3 of their point of views, but I personally agree the most with Natalia!
I don’t think that kids should have homework over the weekend for many reasons. One of which is because kids might feel pressured and rushed that they have to finish their homework, and the weekends are supposed to be a fun time to not have to worry about school.
Another reason is because kids might not get to see their families (or other people that are important to them) a lot besides the weekends, and if that time with their families is taken up by homework, that would make me feel really bad.
Finally, the weekends are pretty much the only time that kids get off of school, and if you’re having to do homework over them, it’s like having to be back in school, which might feel like you never get a break from it! These are all reasons why I don’t think that kids should have homework on the weekends! What do you think?
