This is a time for serenity, calm and peace. In memory of Mater Admirabilis (Mother Admirable), every student holds a paper lily made by herself, with her prayer or wishes inside. Accompanied by the homeroom teacher, they take a quiet walk around the campus, meditating. Then they move to the quiet auditorium. They pray together and then put the lilies onto the bushes in front of Mater Admirabilis.
The Lily Procession is a religious event held annually in early October. It is one of the most beautiful moments of the year. Students and faculty hold a hand made paper lily while walking through the campus. During the walk everyone enjoys the moments of serenity and contemplation. In this movement we have a dialogue with ourselves and God, which helps to purify the hearts and lessen the uncertainty of life. After the procession, the students and staff arrive at a portrait of Mater Admirabilis - where they then pray for all things to come to fruition and dedicate the hand made lilies to her.
The image of Mater Admirabilis was painted by a Sacred Heart sister, Pauline Perdreau, who wanted to share the presence with other sisters. Now, in every Sacred Heart convent or school you will find a copy of this painting. She is a model of peace and serenity and a mother who guides them to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Students may not really understand the meaning behind the event, but the process will plant a seed in every heart - which is the importance of stepping back and contemplating in our busy lives about the serenity and peace that God's love gives.
