In the preschool classroom at SHACC, our focus is on providing a strong foundation for kindergarten readiness, ensuring that each child acquires the skills needed for a successful transition to elementary school. We design our curriculum around the Oregon Early Learning Standards, which guide our planning of activities in areas such as language and literacy, early math concepts, social-emotional development, and physical coordination. Through a combination of structured learning and play-based exploration, children develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and an enthusiasm for learning that will support them as they move on to kindergarten.

Independence is a key aspect of preparing for kindergarten, and we work closely with families to support this important developmental milestone. At SHACC, we believe that learning extends beyond the classroom, so we encourage families to create opportunities for children to practice skills like self-dressing, cleaning up after themselves, and making simple choices at home. These everyday activities complement what children learn in the classroom, building their confidence and helping them become more self-reliant.
