Yearly Events

We historically have had the following events, sponsored by PTO, admin, or both!

August

• Welcome Back Playdate  (PTO sponsored) - The PTO hosts a playdate at the school's public park. There will also be a uniform swap at this time. 

• Staff Breakfast (PTO Sponsored) - The PTO hosts a staff breakfast while they prepare for the school year

• Boo Hoo Breakfast (PTO Sponsored) - PK3 parents are invited to join the PTO and other PK3 families for coffee and bites, celebrating your student's big milestone

• Beautification Day  (PTO Sponsored) - Join your fellow SES families as they work on the grounds of the school.

September

• Family Photo Shoot  (PTO Sponsored) - Participate in this fundraising effort and get great family photos 

• Back to School Night (ADMIN Sponsored)  - SES school opens up for parents to visit classrooms, meet teachers and staff, and connect with other families

• Family Homecoming (PTO Sponsored)  - Join your fellow families with a "homecoming" at SES. Beverages and food trucks will be available. Tickets are available for purchase. 

October

• Fall Fest (PTO Sponsored) - The first big fundraising event of the year. Join the Shepherd community outside of the school for games and activities for the entire family

• Book-O-Ween (ADMIN Sponsored) - In celebration of Halloween, join your student for the costume parade on the lower field

• Social Hour (PTO Sponsored) - Connect with the SES community off-site for a social hour. The location is typically within walking distance of the school

• National Walk to School Day (PTO Sponsored)  - Walk to school with other families. We ask parents to host "walking trains" that meet at different pick-up spots

November

• Art Show (ADMIN Sponsored)  - The Art Department hosts an Art Show after school hours, highlighting student work. Light refreshments are typically provided. 

• Holiday Greenery Sale (PTO Sponsored)  - This fundraising effort sources holiday greenery from local farms for sale.  This includes wreaths, garlands, and poinsettias

• November Bulb Planting (PTO Sponsored) - Fall planting and beautification for spring flowers. Parents and students in the community are welcome to contribute

• Mustang Week (PTO Sponsored) - Fundraising week after Thanksgiving, where we ask families to donate to the 180 Fund

December

• Holiday Concerts (ADMIN Sponsored) - The Music Department hosts holiday concerts to celebrate the season. 

• Teacher & Staff Holiday Party (PTO Sponsored) - The PTO hosts a holiday party for the staff.  Families are invited to donate gift items for a raffle giveaway at the party.

• Mustang Week (PTO Sponsored)  -Continuation of the fundraising week after Thanksgiving, where we ask families to donate to the 180 Fund

• ECE Holiday Concert (ADMIN Sponsored) - The early childhood education program hosts their holiday concert onsite at SES during the school day

• Summer Camp Auction (PTO Sponsored) - During holiday break, the PTO hosts a summer camp auction. Families get great deals for summer camps while donating to the school

January

• Summer Camp Auction (PTO Sponsored) - During holiday break, the PTO hosts a summer camp auction. Families get great deals for summer camps while donating to the school

• Winter School Dance (PTO & ADMIN Sponsored)  - Staff and the PTO hosts a winter dance for students, separated out by lower and upper grades

• "Walk with me Wednesday" (PTO Sponsored)  - Walk to school with other families. We ask parents to host "walking trains" that meet at different pick-up spots

February

• Mardi Gras (ADMIN Sponsored) - This in-school event celebrate the tradition of mardi gras, hosted by our French Language Department

• Black History Showcase (ADMIN Sponsored)  - Organized by the school, upper grades host a Black History Showcase off-site.

• Move Night (PTO Sponsored) - Friday night movie night at SES multi-purpose room. Students are invited to bring their sleeping bags, wear PJs, etc. Pizza, popcorn, and beverages are typically for sale. 

March

• School Musical (ADMIN Sponsored) - The Music Department hosts the annual school musical. There is one during school-time show and two after-school shows. Tickets will be available for purchase

• Enrollment Day (AMIN Sponsored)  - School enrollment opens for the upcoming school year

• 5th Grade Exhibition (ADMIN Sponsored) 

April

• Annual Fundraising Gala (PTO Sponsored)  - Our biggest fundraising event of the year. The PTO hosted event features hundreds of donation items. Tickets are available for purchase.

• Beautification Day (PTO Sponsored) - Join your fellow SES families as they work on the grounds of the school.

• PTO Elections (PTO Sponsored)  - PTO board elections occur in April for the upcoming school year

• Book Fair (ADMIN Sponsored) - The Library Department hosts an in-school book fair

• Art Showcase (ADMIN Sponsored) - The Art Department hosts an Art Show after school hours, highlighting student work. Light refreshments are typically provided. 

May

• Teacher Appreciation Week (PTO Sponsored)  - Show your appreciation for your teachers by gifting them with their favorite things 

• Camping Trip (PTO Sponsored) - Annual camping trip to Cunningham Falls with your fellow SES families

• Teacher/Parent Kickball (PTO Sponsored) - Let's play! Annual teacher/parent kickball friendly competition. Families are encouraged to sign up 

• Spring Fling (ADMIN &PTO Sponsored) - Staff and the PTO host a winter dance for students, separated out by lower and upper grades

June

• Field Day (PTO & ADMIN Sponsored)  - SES's favorite day of the year, where they get to play activities, have summertime sweats, and enjoy the end of the school year

• Moving Up Ceremonies (ADMIN Sponsored) - Celebrate your student as they prepare for the next step

• 5th Grade Trip  (PTO Sponsored) - 5th graders are invited to an annual trip just for them.

• 5th Grade Prom (PTO Sponsored) - 5th grade prom to celebrate their big milestone
