The emphasis of Shenendehowa’s counseling program is on whole student wellness and academic success for every student, not just those students who are motivated, supported, and ready to learn. Shen has counselors in every building K-12 who serve as student advocates to help ensure that the doors of opportunity are open for every student upon graduating from Shen. Counselors interact with students as often as possible throughout the school year individually, in groups, and in classrooms.
Some of the services our counselors provide include:
Assisting students to analyze and evaluate abilities, interests, skills, and achievement.
Working with students to achieve success in personal/social, academic, and career areas.
Monitoring individual students’ progress.
Counseling students experiencing social, emotional, personal, or academic difficulties.
Engaging in short term crisis counseling for students, families or staff.
Collaborating with families, school staff and community agencies to develop interventions for students.
