Gather application materials early
Typed applications are preferred. You can upload your application into Canva or Kami. If you are writing on the application, use blue or black ink. Take your time make sure your writing is legible.
Make sure someone proof reads and edits the scholarship application before submitting.
Meet all application deadlines. Use a calendar or planner, make a schedule, and stick to it. Send materials in before the deadline date.
Request letters of recommendation early. Letters of recommendation should be fresh versions, not copies.

JANUARY DEADLINES
SVEC’s scholarship is available to any high school senior whose primary residence is served by Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative. The scholarship can be used for any secondary education, including colleges or trade schools. This year, and for the first time ever, we’ve had an increase in our scholarship amount! Starting in 2026, SVEC will award 10 $2,000 scholarships to students across our territory.

Our statewide association, Virginia, Maryland and Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives, also awards scholarships each year. If a student receives power from SVEC (or another electric cooperative), they would also be eligible for this opportunity. There are a handful of scholarships available through VMDAEC’s foundation, with varying amounts of money awarded.

The Virginia Council on Women will provide one merit-based and one need-based scholarship to female high school seniors in each of the five geographic regions across the Commonwealth through a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Healthcare (STEAM-H) essay contest. This year, merit-based scholarships will be awarded based on the quality of the essay submitted, and the need-based scholarships will be awarded based on the quality of the essay and the individual's self-identified financial need. Award amounts may vary and are determined by the Council annually.

FEBRUARY DEADLINES
The VMRC Mary Reitz Nursing Scholarship is designed to support people who wish to pursue a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN). With this scholarship, our goal is to provide financial assistance to dedicated and aspiring individuals who are committed to making a difference in these essential fields.
Scholarship Details:
Eligibility: Local community members living in the cities of Harrisonburg, Staunton, Waynesboro, or the counties of Augusta, Shenandoah, Page, or Rockingham.
Award Amount: One full-tuition scholarship (up to $30,000) will be awarded to a member of the surrounding community annually between 2025-2029.
Application Window: December 1, 2025, through February 13, 2026.

A professional reference from a current or past employer attesting to their work ethic and suitability for nursing.

For the 35th year, Allen & Allen is pleased to offer graduating seniors the opportunity to apply for a $2,000 scholarship.
Through this scholarship, we honor our founder, George E. Allen, Sr. Mr. Allen was faced with the tragic loss of his mother as a young child and put himself through college and law school under difficult circumstances. He went on to build one of the premier personal injury law firms in the country. In celebration of his achievements, this scholarship recognizes students who, despite obstacles or special challenges, have achieved high standards of performance.
The Allen Law Firm will award fifteen $2,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors throughout Virginia. Please share this information with students that you feel meet the criteria.

The Bud Griswold Memorial Scholarship provides an award to individuals focusing on natural resource/ environmental conservation. The scholarship will be $1,100.00.
To be Eligible, the recipient must be enrolled in a two- or four- year accredited college or university in a degree program relating to fisheries, aquatic sciences, natural resource management, environmental sciences, or related fields. Preference will be given to students pursuing graduate degrees.

Christopher Saville was a former Strasburg High School student, attending Mountain View Christian Academy his junior and senior year. Christopher loved baseball, basketball, fishing, farming, and being with his friends. Christopher was a friend to everyone who knew him and would be there at any time of the day or night.
Unfortunately, Christopher was involved in a fatal car accident in February 2016 which devastated the Strasburg and surrounding communities. Christopher loved the Lord and had a special place in his heart for the verse in Joshua 1:9 which says; “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord you God will be with you wherever you go.”

The DCCU Cares Foundation will offer a $1,000 scholarship to the following:
One graduating senior at each of the twenty-nine high schools in our membership area

Liz Kleese taught in Shenandoah County Schools for 10 ½ years. She was recognized as Shenandoah County’s “Teacher of the Year” during the 1999-2000 school year and was loved and respected by her students, colleagues and administrators. She had an energetic spirit and she always looked on the brighter side of life. After losing her battle with cancer in 2003, her family established the Elizabeth Kleese Memorial Scholarship in her memory.
Mrs. Kleese believed that students should be able to further their education- especially students who have faced challenges and in spite of difficulty, continued to show persistence of spirit and actions in their daily lives.

Beverly Virginia (Ginny) Peer enrolled in the former School of Nursing at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with the goal of becoming a registered nurse (RN). At the end of her second year of nursing school Ginny sustained a traumatic brain injury after a debilitating accident and required long-term and comprehensive medical care until her death in 2023. Despite all her challenges, Ginny’s spirit remained positive and her passion for nursing never wavered. Although she was unable to complete her studies to become a RN, she wanted to ensure that the opportunity was available to Shenandoah County high school graduates interested in pursuing a nursing career.
Requirements:
Interest in nursing and planning to attend a two- or four- year college; or a Shenandoah County resident seeking additional education to pursue a high level of nursing certification.
Demonstrated a responsible attitude towards academics, preferably with a B or higher, and have exhibited excellence in character with qualities of leadership.
Financial aid may be considered.

In Memory of Gloria Stickley, The Strasburg Museum will award two $1,000 scholarships in 2026. The winners will be announced and presented a check at the school’s Senior Awards Ceremony Eligibility: Applicants must be graduating High School Seniors who plan to continue their education and currently reside within the Strasburg, VA area.

The Helene Albright Scholarship provides an award to a graduating senior of Latino heritage from one of the Shenandoah County, Virginia, public high schools. For purposes of the scholarship, latino heritage may be defined as having at least one parent recognized as Latino, and Spanish is the native language of that parent’s heritage.

James (Jim) Allamong, Jr., an 1967 alumnus of Strasburg High School played varsity football on the school's first team. After high school Jim enlisted in the United States Army and was a member of the 101st Airborne Division. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam, despite being severely injured by a mine explosion in his first tour. He was a decorated veteran, and was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal , among other distinguished awards.
Upon his honorable discharge from the military, Jim enrolled and graduated in 1973 with a B.S. degree in Political Science from Madison College (now JMU). After employment in several roles he went on to attend George Mason University, earning his Juris Doctor degree and admittance to the Virginia State Bar in 1985.
The James Allamong Jr. Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a Strasburg High School student interested in pursuing a career in law.

2- $2500 Scholarships for a college degree program in Ag, Agribusiness, Business, Supply Chain, Marketing or related

A graduating senior of a Shenandoah County high school.
Participated in the school’s interscholastic cross country or track program for at least their senior year.
Plan to attend college and participate in that school's intercollegiate cross country or track program.
In the judgement of their coaches or other high school officials, has demonstrated good character and sportsmanship during high school and sports career.
Financial aid is not a requirement, it may be considered, especially when other factors are nearly equal.

The Jeffrey R. Guenther Memorial Scholarship was established to provide finical support to Shenandoah County students graduating from Strasburg High Shchool. Priority will be given to students who plan to pursue studies in art or math, with secondary preference to those who intend to study education. Applicants should demonstrate a responsible attitude towards their academics, preferably with a cumulative average of B or higher.

This scholarship was established to honor Jesse Bolstridge, a 2012 graduate of Strasburg High school and #55 with the Rams Varsity Football Team.
Scholarship Criteria:
A graduating senior of Strasburg High School who will be attending a two- or four- year college or an accredited trade school.
While high academic grades will not be a primary consideration, a qualified recipient’s academic record must be in good standing.
Sincere desire to continue his or her education will be a primary consideration.
While high school athletic participation is not a requirement, it will be a primary consideration, particularly in football.
While scholarships do not need to be based on financial need, the scholarship selection committee will consider an applicant's financial resources and whether an applicant is known to be receiving other financial aid. Fewer financial resources and less financial aid will be considered a positive factor for an applicant

The Marion Park Lewis Foundation for the Arts will begin accepting applications for arts education grants January 15, 2026 until March 15, 2026. Last year, nearly $194,000 was presented to local artists and organizations.
Awards will be made for specific educational projects that develop the talent and knowledge of the artist or participants of a non-profit group. Grants may be applied toward the cost of training (domestic or abroad), and course(s) of study in secondary schools, colleges, or universities. Grantees may also study or work with art companies, such as ballet or opera companies, or study with individual artists. Recipients should demonstrate talent and promise in a recognized art form. The evaluators look for evidence of commitment to the chosen discipline as a career choice, as well as accomplishment and potential.
Applicants should be residents of, and organizations should be located in, the Northern Shenandoah Valley, including the cities of Winchester and Harrisonburg and the counties of Frederick, Clarke, Warren, Shenandoah, Page, and Rockingham in Virginia, and the counties of Jefferson and Berkeley in West Virginia.

The Northern Shenandoah Valley Master Gardener Association (NSVMGA) is pleased to announce the continuation of its scholarship program to support and encourage students who plan to enroll in programs in the horticultural, agricultural, agribusiness, agricultural education or environmental horticulture sciences during the 2026-2027 academic year. These scholarships are in remembrance of NSVMGA Extension Master Gardeners.
The NSVMGA will award up to six $1500 scholarships to qualifying 2026 graduating seniors from public or private schools and homeschool students from the counties of Clarke, Frederick, Page, Shenandoah, Warren, and the City of Winchester. The Scholarships may be used for tuition, books, or fees for the 2026 - 2027 school year. Criteria considered include: Acceptance to a college, university, two-year community college or other certificate bearing program. Planning a career in the horticultural, agricultural, agribusiness or environmental horticulture fields. Completion of academic courses in any of the content areas of biology, agriculture, horticulture, earth science, environmental science, agricultural education or agribusiness. Volunteer participation or experience in a horticultural or agricultural-related program through a community service organization, Cooperative Extension, FFA, 4H, Humane Society or employment.

The “Butch” Orndorff scholarship provides an annual award to a graduating senior who has participated in a Shenandoah county Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America) troop.
Scholarship Criteria:
A qualified recipient must have been active in the scouting program of a Scouting America Troop for at least three years and must be a member of a troop located in Shenandoah County in his graduating year.
A qualified recipient’s academic record must be in good standing, and the recipient must be a person who has demonstrated good character.
The scholarship committee will seek input from an applicant’s troop leader.

This scholarship is in memory of Ray Heishman. Mr. Heishman was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 77, in Strasburg. He was loyal to his country and a dedicated citizen in our community. He worked for the Northern Virginia Daily until he retired and continued his love for editing through the American Legion’s circulation “Colors”.
This scholarship will be awarded to a member of the Strasburg High School Senior class.
The requirements are as follows:
· The applicant MUST be a member of or related to a family member who is affiliated
with the American Legion, the Sons of the American Legion or the Auxiliary.

The Shenandoah County Farm Bureau Agricultural Advancement Scholarship was established to provide financial support to Shenandoah county Students graduating from high school. Priority will be given to students who have participated in 4-H or FFA and/or plan to pursue studies in agriculture, food science, or natural resources. Applicants should demonstrate a responsible attitude towards their academics, preferably with a cumulative GPA of C or higher.

The Spurmont Masonic Lodge of Strasburg Va. will be offering a $1000.00 Scholarship to an individual who best meets the qualifications set forth by the lodge. The applicant may be male or female, must have earned a 2.5 GPA or higher, have participated in extracurricular activities with the school and/or community organization(s) and have been accepted by an accredited higher education institution.
In addition to the application, they are required to include a 1–2 page essay about themselves addressing the following topics:
Any educational achievements and future educational goals
Financial hardships
How the scholarship will be used

This scholarship is especially focused on students who are active in their community with an emphasis on community activities and involvement. It is for graduating seniors who will be attending any form of secondary education – university, community college, or trade school. The Strasburg Heritage Association is offering a $1,000 scholarship to our 2026 graduating senior class. Preference will be given to applicants who will be pursuing a degree in history, government, civics, teaching, work in public service, policy, or planning. Strasburg Little League is offering 2 - $250 scholarships (1 for Baseball and 1 for Softball). VFW Post 2447 will award $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors from each of the following: Central, Stonewall, Strasburg High Schools, Triplet Tech, and Private schools/ Homeschool. Based on the number of applications, additional awards may be awarded for second and third place. Triplett students will be considered for both that category and their homeschool.
Eligibility: Applicant must be a graduating high school senior and reside in Shenandoah County. The applicant must submit a one page essay based on an interview by the student of a veteran of the US Armed Forces who served in a war, campaign, or expedition on foreign soil or in hostile waters. Students may contact the VFW if they need help arranging for a veteran to interview.

The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 939 Scholarship provides an annual award to a graduating senior who resides in Shenandoah County, Virginia. Applicants must intend to enroll in and attend an institution of post-high school education.
Additionally, a qualified recipient will have an ancestor or collateral relative who was a Vietnam War Veteran. For these purposes:
“Ancestor or collateral relative” includes a parent, grandparent, uncle, aunt, cousin or person of more remote degree of consanguinity

Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (VASWCD) for Educational Scholarships
Open to all students interested in natural resources conservation, agriculture and/or environmental studies.
The Lord Fairfax Soil and Water Conservation District (LFSWCD) will be collecting applications on behalf of the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (VASWCD) for educational scholarships. The VASWCD will be awarding four $2,000 scholarships to statewide winners. The application for this scholarship is included and should be completed and submitted to LFSWCD by April 6 th , 2026 via email and/or hard copy. The LFSWCD Board of Directors will choose one application to send forward to the state association.
In addition to advancing one student’s application for state application review, LFSWCD will be issuing up to two local scholarships – one to the student whose application is submitted for state consideration, and to another qualified student.

This scholarship was established to support current graduating seniors from public high schools in the city of Harrisonburg, and the counties of Rockingham, Page and Shenandoah, who plan to attend a four-year Virginia public college or university to further their education.
This scholarship will be awarded to students planning to work toward a bachelor’s degree with a science/pre-med, business or education major. An eligible candidate must be graduating from one of the following school systems: Harrisonburg City, Rockingham County, Page County, or Shenandoah County.

James Miller was a farmer in Shenandoah County, an employee of Valley Fertilizer for 44 years and a long-time active member of the Hamburg Ruritan Club. HRC established this scholarship fund in 2021 to honor Mr. Miller’s dedication and service to HRC and the agricultural industry. HRC awarded the first scholarship in June 2021. This program is open to seniors attending public or private high schools in Shenandoah County, as well as home schooled students who will receive their high school diploma by June of 2026.

The Hamburg Ruritan Club (HRC) is pleased to announce the 2026 Service Scholarship for high school seniors who have provided outstanding service to the Hamburg Ruritan Club. This scholarship is based on the volunteer hours that a student has given each year during their high school years (grades 9 – 12) supporting the HRC with annual fund raising events, community events and club projects. Examples include hours staffing the food booth at the Edinburg Old Time Festival, hours helping club members with group litter pickups, hours driving golf carts at the Shenandoah County Fair transporting attendees from and to the parking lots and entrance gates, hours assisting club members with the Empty Christmas Stocking project, and hours helping with other club organized events such as yard sales, distributing dictionaries to schools, etc.
HRC awarded the first service scholarships in May 2022 and plans to award a scholarship of at least $1000 in 2026. HRC may award an additional amount and/or additional scholarships to other deserving applicants. The application procedure for 2026 can be found by using the link below. This program is open to all seniors in Shenandoah County, including those attending public and private high schools, as well as those participating in home school programs who will be receiving their high school diploma by June 2026.

The Ruritan National Foundation has been a supporter of funding Education since 1949. As most of the nearly 1000 clubs that make up Ruritan provide educational scholarships, the Rockingham District is the first District in Ruritan to provide an educational scholarship. We are soliciting your support and assistance in becoming a viable partner in supporting continued education.
Our scholarship criteria to qualify for consideration shall be a minimum of a 2.0 GPA. Applicant’s name, address, Guardians names. Institution(s) applied or planning to attend. Other information that may be beneficial are Career plans, community service, leadership, clubs or organizations, awards/special honors, short essay on how applicant can benefit from receiving this scholarship. Please use the provided application for the students to apply for our scholarship. It will not be necessary for students to provide personal financial information if not comfortable doing so. We ask for a lot of information, outside of required information all responses will be at the students discretion.
The scholarship amount shall be $500.00. Recipients will be recognized at the Schools Awards Banquet with the actual scholarship being awarded at the Rockingham District Ruritan Convention the first Saturday of November with student and guardian(s) invited as guests.

Shenandoah Area Secular Humanists (SASH) is in the ninth year of offering local high school seniors the opportunity to participate in our SASH Essay Contest. As last year, we will be offering a total of $10,000 in three categories.
NUMBER OF AWARDS: The number of the awards will be determined by the quality of the submissions and the number of submissions we receive. The amount of the awards will be two each of First ($2500), Second ($1500) and Third ($1000) place awards.The award will be a check made payable to each winner to be used any way the recipient wishes. SASH will not monitor the use of the award. If no applicants submit a quality essay, SASH will not issue any awards. The W.P. and T.M. Phillips Memorial Scholarship was established by Mrs. Thelma M. Phillips in memory of her late husband, William “Bill” Phillips, to honor his love of farming. Thelma and Bill spent a lifetime together enjoying farm life and working in agribusiness.
The purpose of this scholarship is to support students who are pursuing a college degree in the field of agriculture. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to students who graduate from any public high school in Rockingham County, Shenandoah County, or Harrisonburg City.
Consideration will be given to the student’s academic record, chosen college major, leadership qualities, and involvement in activities related to agriculture.

JULY DEADLINES
During their lifetimes, Gloria Wille Bell and Carlos R. Bell, longtime residents of Gloucester County, Virginia, created a trust fund to provide scholarship support to forward the careers of students pursuing degrees in engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or another related scientific field at the University of Michigan.
The scholarship is based on academic accomplishments rather than financial need. The scholarship will program will provide up to $80,000 over four years of undergraduate study to students selected from the Virginia Commonwealth, with a preference given to residents of Gloucester, Virginia area.
In 2026, the last four-year scholarships will be awarded.
