Through the E³ Program, students in grades 3-4-5 are involved in hands-on science and engineering activities that promote critical thinking, teamwork, and interest in STEM occupations.
On the day of E³, which will be held on March 5th and 6th, 2025 at Shelby County Instructional Services Center, teams of students will apply their understanding of STEM concepts to solve and design construction challenges. The 2025 E³ Off to the Races challenges will focus on the engineering team's knowledge of :
structures, absorption, potential energy, gravitational force and force of impact to protect eggs in Crash Test "Egg"stravaganza
mass and stability to construct in Float Fleet Derby
tension, gravity, force, projectile motion, gravity, potential and kinetic energy, in Race Car
debugging and coding skills to... Dash's Pit Crew Challenge
These challenges are sure to provide an element of adventure and mystery to truly Engage Elementary Engineers. The element of mystery is created when students are required to transfer and test their knowledge of STEM content in a new situation with time constraints and mystery materials. Teams work diligently to compete and showcase their ingenuity without any assistance from teachers, parents, or spectators. After construction, students will test their projects and receive authentic feedback from practicing engineers from Honda and Alabama Power who have an invested interest in STEM education.
