Description:
The ADHD screening interface and diagnostic project is a new primary care led project funded by NHS SY ICB (Sheffield) and delivered by the University Health Service (UHS) for UHS patients. The project started in September 2025 and is expected to run for 12 months.
The project will start to test out the wider applicability of primary care led ADHD models.
All new UHS patient ADHD referrals requests that the practice receives during the pilot will be reviewed through the referral screening/triage interface.
Following criteria agreed with secondary care mental health services, a GP with extended role will carry out assessment (and medication where required) for approx. 126 less complex patients (based on the project running for one year). The remaining referrals will follow existing ADHD referral routes.
The project is expected to reduce referrals to Secondary Care by offering UHS patients with less complex ADHD presentations the choice of a more person-centered service with increased quality that is closer to home.
Further details about the outcomes and recommendations from the project will be available in 2026.
