The Highlights
The UVAC study officially began in September 2024. The first six months were focused on getting the agreements in place for the routinely collected data being analysed in work package 1 (WP1). We also worked on further developing the study protocol for the case study work in work package 2 (WP2).
Excitingly, the study's Steering Committee, Advisory Group and all Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) groups were set up and had their initial meetings during this time.
In March of this year, we began WP1. Carl has been working to develop and test the model, deriving some initial funnel plots. The analysis is ongoing and we anticipate having findings to share in the Autumn!
The study team has also been focused on obtaining research ethics approval and Health Research Authority (HRA) approval for WP2. Research ethics approval is important to ensure that research is conducted safely, with the rights, well-being and dignity of all involved at the centre of practice. We also require HRA approval as UVAC involves NHS England. Carl and Katie attended the Research Ethics Committee meeting in May and obtained full research ethics and HRA approval in June. This means that we can begin reaching out to potential study sites as soon as the WP1 analysis is complete. We are very grateful to all of our PPIE advisors and Advisory Group and Steering Committee members as they supported us across the research ethics experience. They shared their expertise in navigating the ethics and HRA process, and reviewed all of our public-facing documents to make sure that they are clear and understandable.
Our website is also now live, which may be redundant as this update is on the website, but an exciting milestone nonetheless!
Timeline Check-in
We are very happy to say that UVAC study is currently running on time! There can often be delays in the first months of setting up a study, so it feels great to be on track!
Up Next...
We are looking forward to some preliminary findings from the WP1 analysis of routine data in the coming months. We will also begin to select the postcode districts and Integrated Care Systems for our case studies in WP2.
