Taking Yourself Seriously

@ The University of Sheffield

Welcome to our project!

Taking Yourself Seriously is a year-long project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, through their Connected Communities programme.

Our project aims to create a set of co-produced resources that are concerned with arts methodologies, with a particular focus on researchers in the voluntary and community sector. We have linked to ARVAC as they represent that sector.

Our work is particularly interested in what artists do when they work with communities and what methods they use. These methodologies can enable diverse forms of knowledge to be surfaced. We want to look at the potential of artistic methods for community researchers to use in ways that make a difference.

In short, our aim is to integrate methodological approaches from the arts and humanities in the context of enquiry around localised issues of social cohesion. We will be working in three key contexts to explore how arts methodologies can support community cohesion.

Our projects:

Workshops at Clifton School in Rotherham.

How artistic methodologies can support women from Pakistani backgrounds.

Exploring social cohesion through film as a medium for dissemination.

To the right, you will find a podcast published by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, defining their Connected Communities programme.

This video will offer you an insight into exactly what their programme is about and thus, offer you an insight into the roots of our project.
