3D printing

Service parameters (Size, material, print time)

• We currently have total of 10 3D printers in service: 8 Bambu Labs X2D's, 2 Bambu Labs H2D Pro's.

• The maximum build size for our 3D printers is 250mm x 250mm x 250mm.

• The minimum resolution is 0.4mm. Object detail smaller than this will not be printed.

• Our printers are loaded with PLA filament in an array of colours. Please ask staff for details.

• Printing overnight is possible but preferably avoided. 

• Models may need to be split into sections to fit buildplate or to allow for time.

• Cost of 3D printing is approximately £0.01 / 1g.

 Guidelines for File Preparation

• The technical staff will check your digital file for errors and can give you advice on how to avoid problems or possible splitting of the model.

• The model must fit within the maximum build size of the machine (250mm x 250mm x 250mm).

• The model must be submitted in the .STL format.

• Separate models must be submitted as separate files. Please do not submit all models in one file.

• Please supply 'clean' files: no other information, geometries, hidden objects/layers/ etc.

Prioritising of work

At peak times we operate a 'first come, first served' system. We offer no guarantees that requested deadlines will be met at peak times.

It is reccomended that you send prints from either a personal device or from the Arts Tower to reduce wait times in the Print Workshop.

Peak times include May-June.
