The Ion Beam Center
Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, Germany
The Ion Beam Centre (IBC) forms a part of the Institute of Ion Beam Physics and Materials Research at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR).
It is a world-leader in Ion Beam Science, with 40 experimental stations and a track record in the fields of ion implantation, ion-beam modification, ion-beam analysis and ion- or plasma-assisted film deposition.
The centre offers beams from 5 eV to 50 MeV and continues to pioneer the development of new ion detectors and beam applications.
Network Role: The IBC provides access to an Orion NanoFab Facility with nanometer-scale He and Ne focused ion beams, a heater (<800K) for temperature dependent investigations, and a unique mass separated multi-element FIB. The facilities include a unique detector for qualitative materials contrast, which has been developed recently as a part of work towards a backscattered-ion based analytic addition for the HIM. These facilities are complemented by the ability to do higher energy broad beam implantation for comparative patterning investigations.
