You choose your modules from a pre-defined list of Approved Modules for your degree programme. These are listed in the Programme Regulations, find these for your degree via the Programme Regulations page.
Some modules have one or more pre-requisite module(s), this is to ensure that you have the right experience and knowledge to complete the module. For example, to take PHY216 Galaxies in level 2, you must previously have taken PH104 Introduction to Astrophysics in level 1. Before choosing a module, look for any pre-requisites and make sure that you have taken these. See the Pre‑requisites page.
If you are choosing your level 2 modules, or for level 3 of your MPhys, you might also like to consider which modules you might wish to choose in the subsequent year, to make sure you don't miss out any necessary pre-requisites.
Ideally you need to choose modules to give you either a 60:60 split or a 55:65 or 65:55 split across semesters. A 50:70 or 70:50 split is possible, but we advise you to think carefully about this. For more information about ensuring you achieve an acceptable split of credits across the two semesters, follow the link to your programme from the Programme Regulations page.
Before submitting your choices via OMC, make sure that:
- you have only chosen modules from the prescribed list for your degree programme,
- that your choices added to your core modules give you a total of 120 credits,
- that you have the necessary prerequisites,
- and that the balance across semesters is between 50:70 and 70:50 (inclusive).
We check modules carefully before approving your choices, and will reject choices that do not meet these criteria.
