First year students undertake a series of one day placements during the spring (Feb to May 2027), with four types of experience required: Community Pharmacy; Hospital Pharmacy; Primary Care; and 'Social Accountability', which involves a day at a pharmacy with a needle exchange programme.
Their timetables allow for placement days on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, with their availability for placements based on the balance of provider capacity. They also spend time with a local charity or community group as part of a group project.
We are currently seeking additional capacity for First Year placement days in Primary Care - please contact the team if this is something you are interested in providing, at pharmacy@sheffield.ac.uk
Second year students undertake two blocks of placements, with each student completing two weeks in a hospital pharmacy and three weeks in a community pharmacy.
We split the cohort into two groups, with half the cohort undertaking their hospital pharmacy placement 16th - 27th November 2026 and community pharmacy placement in 26th April - 14th May 2027, and the other half undertaking community placements from 16th November- 4th December 2026, followed by their hospital pharmacy placements from 3rd to 14th of May 2027.
As a new MPharm programme, each year expands our need for placement opportunities. 2027-2028 sees the start of Third Year placements, consisting of:
Mental Health (1 week)
Community Pharmacy (3 weeks)
Hospital Pharmacy (3 weeks)
Primary Care (1 week)
These will run alongside the first and second year placements outlined above.
We welcome enquiries from organisations looking ahead to 2027-2028, and will be in touch with existing providers regarding 2027-28 capacity in spring 2027, when the dates for placement blocks are confirmed.
