Smart and CO2 neutral Olefin Production by arTificial Intelligence and MAchine Learning
CO2 emissions from major sources such power plants and industrial sectors are largely responsible for increased global climate change.
Carbon capture is an effective abatement technology to reduce the trend and contributes to achieving the important goal of keeping the increase in global average temperature to well below 2 0C above pre-industrial levels.
Most studies on carbon capture have focussed on the power generation sector. However, industrial sector (including ethylene production) accounts for about 25% of total global CO2 emission.
Hence, there is now a growing interest in the application of carbon capture to petrochemical industry.
OPTIMAL is a H2020 project gathering eight (8) partners across Europe and China to directly address the challenges of research & innovation of smart and green manufacturing by carrying out process modelling\simulation, process integration, optimal control, techno-economic and environmental evaluation of CCU integrated with ethylene plants at the full industrial scale. This project is to generate at least 25 Journal publications and 25 Conference papers. 2 Special Issues will be established in leading journals such as Applied Energy. 2 Workshops and 2 Special Sessions in major international conferences will also be organised to disseminate project results.
Duration: 01/08/2021 - 31/12/2026
