Live Projects
The Live Projects are a pioneering educational initiative introduced by the School of Architecture at the University of Sheffield. The projects draw on the School’s exceptional research base as well as the commitment, vision and resources of highly talented students. Running since 1999, the initiative is responsible for over 250 completed projects, each of which is archived below.
2018-2019
Aalfy For six weeks, the AR’ City Live Project team have worked in residence at Live Works, in the heart of Sheffield’s city centre, working with local young people to develop a series of interactive technological installations as proofs of concept for a ‘Playable City’ festival to be hosted by our client Aalfy. The Glossop:Connect Live Project was conceived as a joint endeavour between Victoria Arts Centre, High Peak Borough Council and various local organisations who want to kick start a creative vision strategy for Glossop.

In 2015, two schools located directly alongside the M1 in Tinsley, Sheffield, were closed due to fear of what daily exposure to high levels of pollution would have on the children’s health. While one of the school buildings was demolished, the other is currently under occupation by community enterprise the ‘Tinsley Tingas’ who aspire to turn the disused school building into a mix of workspaces and community facilities, working alongside the local council who are using the site to monitor and test technologies to tackle pollution.

Our vision is to launch Woodbourn Connection as a new space that facilitates links between the local community and the University of Sheffield. This project is the first intervention of many in reactivating a previously underused building at the Pakistan Muslim Centre and in creating a more civic university.
