The FoH RSA represents all early career researchers and contract research staff including post-docs, research assistants and technicians in the Faculty of Health, University of Sheffield.

Provide support for career development for ECRs.

Process and Principles
Process
The process for approving these awards will be undertaken by the School Managers.
PGRs are nominated via the shared google form.
Nominations are considered at the School Managers meeting
Nominations will be agreed by majority decision.
Individual awards will be £50.
Agreed awards will be processed by the Division Managers.
The School Managers will monitor awards to check that they are within the allocated budget (£3000 per year).
Principles
Rewards should reflect ‘going above and beyond’ what could not normally be expected.
Rewards can potentially be for any activity, for example:
Academic success
Support for teaching
Volunteering
PGRs should be rewarded once for a task, ideally at its conclusion.
Nominations can be from any member of staff

Research Stimulation fund
(replaces the former Research Collaboration and Research Development funds available in parts of the School)
The Research Stimulation Fund is a source of internal funding offered to staff within the School to support research activities which
promote research excellence
increase dissemination and impact
generate research outputs, or income
establish new collaborations and/or strengthen existing collaborations.
Examples of activities include:
Meetings with potential collaborators to develop research proposals related to research and KE activity.
Meetings with existing collaborators to develop new funding bids where no other funding is in place for this activity.
Research costs where there is a benefit that fill the above criteria and for which there is no alternative funding in place, for example small events
Conditions
The fund runs from 1st August-31st July each year and all expenditure must occur within the financial year in which the application is made. Expenditure must be made in line with the University’s Financial regulations. If claims are made via a Purchase Card or Expenses Form, please make sure to allow sufficient additional time for those claims to be processed prior to the 31st July deadline. For some claim types, an earlier deadline will be applied by Finance and that information will be circulated once the financial year-end dates have been set.
Applicants are limited to one application a year with a limit of £1,500 per application.
Awards will be made on a ‘first-come-first-served’ basis.
Awards are subject to sufficient funds being available.
The use of the funding will be monitored to ensure the funds are spent for the purpose intended and within the financial year of the allocation.
All successful applicants will be asked to write a 500 word report (details TBC)

Alternative Sources of funding
Funding requests for open access fees should be sought from the Institutional Open Access Fund
Training support should be requested via the School’s Training and Development fund, and for PS staff the Faculty Staff development fund.
Funding for book purchases should be directed to the Library in the first instance.

School Research Travel fund
The School Research Travel fund is a source of internal funding offered to staff within the School to provide an allowance towards expenses in attending eligible events covers the following activities:
Attendance at a conference or meeting to give an oral account or a poster of original research work, of which the member of staff is the primary author or joint author (costs will only be met for one contributor when presenting multi-author work).
Exceptionally, an allowance may be awarded for attendance at a conference or meeting where there is no provision for presentation of original research if substantial benefit to the wider division can be demonstrated.
Travel for the purposes of educational conferences, visits and meetings is met by the School’s education funds, or in some cases by the University. Please email Natalie Cardwell (School Manager )for these purposes.
Who is eligible to apply?
Applications to the fund can be accepted from:
All staff are eligible to apply, but preference will be given to research and professional services staff who are not able to obtain funding from other sources.
