Staff should familiarise themselves with the information provided in the EQA Guidance for Staff document, which details the role of University staff in the EQA processes (external examiners, external assessors and independent assessors). Staff should also familiarise themselves with the information provided about the roles in the relevant Code of Practice.
Complete a nominations form (below) to appoint a new external. Publish names of externals in student handbooks.
Reciprocal appointments are not permitted. Add, view and amend the list of where your staff members are serving as externals: External Examiners Elsewhere.
Provide all new externals with an induction, and all externals with an briefing at the start of the session. Template emails are available.
Renew external IT access annually. Visit Setting up external examiners for online assessments for full details.
Schools must invite all externals to the final examination boards at which award recommendations are discussed.
Schools are to respond to the external directly, and complete the response form circulated by the External Examiners team.

Schools can claim reimbursement for hospitality incurred for EQA processes.
