February Opportunity Round Up

Welcome to the February monthly opportunity round up, showcasing the most relevant on-campus, virtual and external employability events as well as job opportunities from employers who lead the way for equality and diversity in their workplaces. 

Now that exams and deadlines have passed, the start of Semester 2 is a fantastic opportunity to add something new to your routine, such as attending a careers workshop, meeting employers and discovering new connections for your network. 


Here is your round up of February’s employability activities, tailored for our Equal Opportunities community.

On-campus events 

Equal Opportunities exclusive workshop: Discovering the future you!

University is more than studying - this is the time to take on all the opportunities! This session will introduce you to all the extra curricular activities you can get involved with during your time at university, and how these can give you a whole host of development experiences to show off in front of potential future employers. We will introduce how to get the most from the MySkills portal and show you how easy it is to record your time at university. You'll also have the opportunity to meet new friends and expand your network. Book your place here!

Application deadline for London City Connections

City Connections is back in Semester 2, but this time,  its off to London! If you missed out the first time around, now is your chance to reserve your space before applications close on 11th February!

Spring Semester e-Mentoring opens

The next opportunity to apply for the spring e-Mentoring scheme opens for applications on 5th February. This is a great opportunity to gain a real insight into a sector of your choice, all the from the comfort of your device. CV & LinkedIn Boosters

Always wishing you had the time to work on an eye-catching LinkedIn profile? Do you have a free spot in your calendar to come work on your CV? 

The Careers & Employability Service put on weekly booster sessions across campus, giving you a collaborative space to work on those important tools to cinch your next career opportunity, whether that be an internship, part time job or most importantly, graduate jobs!

Come along for the whole time, or just drop-in for part of the time.

How to… series

The ‘How to…’series are a collection of workshops run by the Careers & Employability Service advisors and cover a huge range of popular topics. Similar to a seminar, you will be taught through presentations and group activities and be expected to get involved with the work. This is also a great way to get help from the employability advisors in a more casual way, rather than a 1-to-1 appointment. To find out what workshops are coming up,  head to the events tab!

KPMG Social Mobility Session

KPMG is a place where you can be yourself and give your best, whoever you are and whatever your background.

Join at our virtual "Come as you are - KPMG Social Mobility Event" and gain an insight into life at KPMG. Listen to inspirational career stories from members of their Social Mobility Network as well as British icon and inspiration - Dame Kelly Holmes!

Are you wondering where your degree can take you after graduation? Join Coach Café, a virtual networking opportunity where you can connect with Sheffield graduates who want to share their insights with you. Apply here.


"Working in the Think Tank sector" webinar

Think tanks are research organisations that develop ideas and suggestions for action on a whole range of subjects affecting society. Given the economic, social and political issues facing the UK, ensuring the world of research and policy-making is populated by a variety of talented individuals with diverse views and backgrounds is more important than ever. This event is the perfect opportunity for Equal Opportunities students as it appeals to all eligibility criteria. Head to Career Connect to register!

External events 

There is a huge range of external employability opportunities happening in November. Some are free to attend and will cover travel expenses. However, if you are unable to attend an event for any barrier such as travel expenses or ticket cost, this is the perfect example of how the Equal Opportunities fund can help you attend. Bright Network's Women in TEC

Get ready to dive into a world of possibilities at Women in TEC – the meeting place for STEM students ready to start their career journey!

The event is running in a hybrid format, so you can attend virtually or in-person. However, virtual attendees will not have the opportunity to network with the employers, so we recommend attending in person. Register here by the 18th February.
