Aims
The aims of the module are:
1. To ensure that students are introduced to discipline-specific expectations of scholarly research;
2. To ensure that students are able to appreciate, engage with and critically evaluate new research within their broad disciplinary field;
3. To enable students to progress through, and critically reflect upon, the key stages of the development of a research project at doctoral level;
4. To build PhD students’ cohort identity and coherence as a group of peer-to-peer learners.
Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete the module will:
1. Critically reflect on discipline-specific expectations of their field of scholarly research;
2. Critically evaluate new research within the broader field of their discipline and use this to inform their own formulation of research questions;
3. Assess their progress through the key stages of the development of a research project at doctoral level;
4. Actively participate within a Departmental research environment, including peer to peer learning activities that promote scholarly research among their disciplinary cohort of PhD students.
Each workshop will be based on a presentation from the convenor and/or guest speakers, and a structured discussion with PGR students. PGRs are expected to attend all sessions over the course of their second and third/fourth years.
The training programme is currently being finalised and will be sent to you once everything for the second semester is scheduled. The sessions will also be added to your google calendars.
