All new research students are admitted directly onto the PhD degree but are required to undergo a Confirmation Review (CR) which will confirm their registration as a doctoral level student. The CR is intended to confirm whether or not the student and his/her research project have the potential for successful research at doctoral level. The CR is also intended to ensure that the student has made satisfactory progress on the DDP, in line with the student’s needs identified via the Training Needs Analysis (TNA). It allows the Department and Faculty to ensure that all doctoral researchers can confidently progress after their first year towards the completion of high quality doctorates. The vast majority of postgraduate researchers successfully complete CR. All doctoral researchers have two opportunities to pass CR. Students who do not pass will be required to transfer to MPhil registration.
Further information about the Confirmation Review can be found in the Code of Practice.
Note: we are currently reviewing the department guidelines and once confirmed will be circulated via email.
