All the modules delivered within our department begin with SNM and many students opt to take all their optional units from within our department.

At each level, students have some choice in the modules they take. University regulations require that in order to progress onto the next level of study, you must have achieved 120 credits at a pass level (e.g. scoring at least 40%). Each year of the course includes core modules (those which must be taken) and optional modules (those which you might like to take). For example if you have 80 credits of core modules in level one, you then need to make up 40 credits. You might choose to take these in modules offered within the school or you might like to choose from a guided module choice list of modules that are available to you outside of the department.
Guided module choice is available for students to select modules offered by other University departments. Students can select from the module choice list (provided there are no academic prerequisites, such as having studied the subject during 6th form or college). You must select modules at your level/year of study. Please note that core modules take precedence over optional modules and if an optional module clashes with your core units, you will be unable to take it. As such, you are advised to double-check the timetable with the academic department responsible for the unit.
Some of these modules require you to either study corresponding modules at the same time (co-requisites) or have previously completed corresponding modules (pre-requisites).
In addition, if you develop particular career intentions you might be advised to slant your degree in a particular direction, your Personal Tutor will give you advice on this.

Choosing and changing modules
At levels 2 and 3, you will have to undertake module choice online before you re-register. More information will be given to you about this closer to the time (during the spring semester before the next academic year begins).
Where you have a good reason for doing so, you can change your optional module choices any time during the first three weeks of the semester (known as the add/drop period) with the consent of your Programme Director. However, the later that you leave this change, the more difficult it will be to catch up. Please remember it is your responsibility to make sure you understand the requirements of a particular module, including when it is timetabled.
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU CHECK THE TIMETABLE TO AVOID CLASHES IN BOTH SEMESTER 1 AND 2.
