The ATM Lab has been awarded an Industrial Collaboration Programme Grant from the Henry Royce Centre in partnership with Airbus! This grant will examine the design and use of an electrically-actuated metamaterial gripper that can be used for manufacturing and space operations. The gripper will combine a conforming structure that is actuated to allow for the increase in surface coverage when grasping non-uniform components and an electroadhesive metasurface that can offset the lack of gripping force by increasing its electrostatic force.
