Dr. Simon Pope
Lecturer, Active Control
Dr. Pope is a Lecturer in the School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering. His research focuses on both theoretical and applied metamaterials, including design and experimental validation of active and passive metamaterials for acoustic, vibration and mechanical systems, metamaterials for computing, manufacture and assembly of metamaterials. His metamaterials research has been funded by EPSRC and Royce. He is the Space and Aviation challenge lead and Active Metamaterials special interest group co-lead for the EPSRC UK Metamaterials Network+.
Dr. Eytan Canzini
Research & Teaching Associate
Dr. Canzini is a Research & Teaching Associate in the School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering. He received his MEng degree in Aerospace Engineering and his PhD from the University of Sheffield. His background is in robotics systems and control, with applications in aerospace, manufacturing and space systems. His research interests in metamaterials include dynamic active control of structures and reservoir computing. He is the co-lead of the Space & Aviation Challenge Area of the UK Metamaterials Network.
Dr. Stephen Henthorn
Lecturer, Wireless Communications
Dr. Henthorn is a Lecturer in Wireless Communications in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. His research focuses on microwave metamaterials and antennas, particularly reconfigurable and modulating structures and how they are integrated into systems such as communications, RADAR, or insect tracking. He is also co-lead of the UK Metamaterials Network's Microwave and THz Special Interest Group.
Prof. Frederik Claeyssens
Professor, Polymer Materials
Prof. Claeyssens is a Professor in Polymer Materials at the School of Chemical, Materials and Biological Engineering. His research is in is in polymer materials for healthcare, where he makes make materials for microfluidics-based microphysiological systems and tissue engineering scaffolds. He combines nanomaterials with in house developed photocurable polymers to produce novel inks for bioprinting and 3D printing. He started his research career with an appointment in Sheffield in 2008 as an EPSRC Life Sciences Interface Fellow, before this he worked in Bristol University, where he received his PhD in Physical Chemistry.
