Applied and Theoretical Metamaterials Lab (ATM Lab)

The ATM Lab @ UoS was established in 2025/26 to connect together some of the research in metamaterials being undertaken at Sheffield and to provide an integrated and dynamic environment in which staff, postgraduate and undergraduate students can explore the potential of metamaterials. The research in the lab covers theoretical and applied metamaterials across a number of physical domains, including acoustic/mechanical and electromagnetic. 

We are engaged in multiple projects across a wide variety of fields and work with multiple industrial partners to translate research into real-world systems, and have secured grants and research funding to push the boundaries of metamaterials and create new solutions to real-world problems.
