Results Day Guide

Results day can be an exciting (and nerve-wracking!) day. Our guide below is designed to help you with your university application status and make sense of the next steps, no matter what your situation.

Congratulations! Make sure you check details carefully in Track for confirmation of your acceptance.

Then you should receive details from the university or college about what to do next.

You'll also be able to view your confirmation letter in Track five after your place is confirmed.

For more support on what to do next with your acceptance, head to UCAS here.

If you had a conditional firm offer that you have met and exceeded, you might be curious about courses with higher entry requirements.

If so, you can see what's available in Clearing.

See below for guidance on how to make the most of Clearing.

If your Higher Education offer relies on a GCSE resit grade - don't panic if your UCAS has not updated yet!

You will find that this will change after the GCSE results day (22nd August). Be patient, there will be lots of other people in the same position and your university will honour your offer until the GCSEs are announced.

If you have been toying with the idea of university but have not yet applied, you can STILL make a late application via Clearing

Don’t worry! Check your UCAS Track account - your firm choice might be willing to accept you on your chosen course anyway or they may have offered you a place on a different subject. Think carefully about whether this is what you want to study!

You might have been rejected from your firm choice but have been offered a place on your insurance choice.

You could have also been entered into Clearing. For more information about your status in Track see here.

If you have changed your mind either about your course, university or even higher education as a whole, that's okay!

If you are certain you do not want your offer you will need to self-release into Clearing by clicking on “decline my place” in Track. If you complete this action, your your contract with the university or college will be cancelled and you will lose your place.

It is a good idea to speak to possible Clearing options before declining your place (more on clearing below).

You can use these resources on UCAS to explore other options. You could also explore our 'Explore your Options' Sections. It may also be worth booking a careers appointment to discuss your options with one of our trained advisers.

PLEASE NOTE
Clearing for 2023 runs from Wed 5th July - Tue 17th October

Been entered into Clearing? Or decided to use Clearing?

Don’t worry! Every year there are usually courses with places available in Clearing, in a range of subjects and at a large variety of universities. Courses in clearing normally have more flexible entry requirements than what have previously been offered.

If you are eligible through Clearing or have decided to “self-release”, a Clearing button will appear on your UCAS track screen. You will also get a Clearing Number.

Lists and updates of all available courses will be published by UCAS online. You can view these courses here. Universities will also have courses on their websites.

There are two options for using Clearing:

Try not to feel pressured into accepting the first offer that comes your way. Shop around if you can to find the best option for you! Universities should give you some time to think about your decision, so check to see what the deadline is.
