The NOCN Level 1 Award in Basic Construction Skills is designed to offer an introduction to the construction industry and will prepare individuals to progress to higher level related qualifications in the construction sector.

There are four pathways to choose from:

• Plumbing

• Bricklaying

• Carpentry and joinery

• Multi trades (combining brick and carpentry and joinery)

During the course, you will learn the skills and theory appropriate to the chosen sector.

Most courses are 5 days:

Monday 31st March to Friday 4th April.

The Multi trades course will take place over 2 weeks:

Monday 31st March to Friday 11th April.

After completion of one of these courses, learners may progress onto a level 2 in a relevant construction sector.

All learners must be 19+* at the start of the Academic Year.

* Learner age is determined at the most recent 31st August.

All learners must present valid ID at enrolment.

This course is available on a fully-funded basis for learners who are:

• Unemployed and in receipt of benefits**

or

• Employed part time/ on a low wage

** Eligible benefits include UC, JSA, ESA, DLA, PIP.

All learners are required to declare any Criminal Convictions at enrolment. Where a conviction is declared, enrolment will be at the discretion of the College’s Safeguarding Team.

Learners should report to Reception on day 1 of the course, where they will be met by the tutor.

Please note: There is no parking* available on site. Learners are encouraged to make alternative arrangements or use public transport.

* Blue badge holders may request access to the car park by talking to enrolment staff ahead of the course.

Following successful completion of the course, learners will gain one of the following qualifications (depending on which course is completed):

• NOCN Level 1 Award in Basic Construction Skills - Bricklaying

• NOCN Level 1 Award in Basic Construction Skills - Carpentry & Joinery

• NOCN Level 1 Award in Basic Construction Skills - Plumbing

• NOCN Level 1 Award in Basic Construction Skills - Multi Skills

Ahead of training, all learners must attend an information and enrolment session in person to find out more about the course and to complete necessary pre-course paperwork.

• Biometric Residence Permit (if applicable)

• Proof of benefits or earnings (as applicable)
