For your Silveer Award, you must undertake your chosen skill activity for 3, 6 or 12 months.
The skill activity needs to be a regular activity of approximately 1 hour a week for 3 to 18 months depending on the Award level. The skill could be learnt in many different way, such as a regular class/lesson (excluding your main College course), taking part in club or group where you learn new things, following a course or series of sessions, or learning a skill through an app or programme.
There are a number of activities you could do from you home, such as learning a language through Duolingo or learning the guitar via Marty Music.
The DofE have put together a list of other skills courses which are available online. Click on the link below to see the list or go to the DofE opportunity finder on the DofE website.
Although your main College course can't count toward learning a new skill, additional course/session such as Employability Skills can be considered. The College currently offers the GetAhead employability skills programme which consists of 14 weekly sessions where you will learn about the skills needed to get into employability and boost your career opportunities. In addition to the GetAhead programme, the College has been working with SWFC, SUFC and Element to provide an NCS online life skills course. This consists of 12 weekly sessions where you will learn various skills covering things such as positive mental health, marketing branding and finding the best version of you.
