For this section, you much undertake a residential trip for a minimum of 5 days and 4 nights consecutively.
The accomodation could be staying together with a group in tents, a hostel or other similar types of accommodation.
The main daytime activities should be focused around learning or developing a skill, training for a qualification, or volunteering with a group. The evening activities should be spent with the others in your group, whether organised activities or socialising and cooking together.
Five or more people in the group (including you, and in addition to course leaders) that you don’t know, and who don’t know each other, doing the same activity or role as each other. An Assessor needs to be identified on the residential and engaged with during your time there.
Homestays or staying separately from the group.
Staying with relatives or friends.
School or youth group trips.
Booking with friends, unless you know you are joining a large group and they are able to separate you during the daytime and evening activities.
Your practice or qualifying expedition.
Being paid, internships or work experience.
Volunteering with a commercial organisation.
Academic or school curriculum trips.
Going on holiday.

The NCS is designed especially for 16 and 17 year olds, the NCS experience will give you taste for independence and give you skills that’ll help you get a clearer idea of what you want from your future.

YHA offers opportunities for DofE participants to complete the residential section by volunteering and stay at one of their venues. Get the eperience of a lifetime, make new friends, learn new skills and get fully involved with everything YHA can offer.
You will get free meals and accomodation during your time there.
Kirklees Summer Camp is a volunteer led charity providing a camping holiday for Children from a disadvantaged backgrounds, carers or with special needs. As a volunteer you will play games, provide pastoral support and make a difference to children’s lives.
The cost is £80 to cover food and accomodation.
Complete your Gold Residential Project at Peat Rigg on a week dedicated to The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. You will also take part in an exciting range of Outdoor Activities and Conservation projects and have the opportunity to complete the John Muir Discovery Award.
The cost of the residential is £250 for food and accomodation.
