Welcome to the Physical Wellbeing section of this site. This section will give you information on how to improve your physical wellbeing along with how the College can support you to do so.
Taking care of your physical wellbeing is a powerful first step towards better mental and emotional wellbeing, leading to overall positive wellbeing. It is not only important to look after your body through healthy eating and exercise but making sure you get the right amount of deep sleep each night and controlling your alcohol intake including giving up smoking.
Why is looking after your physical wellbeing important?
Although it may not be obvious and visible, exercising releases endorphins which are your "happy" hormones which lift moods and calm anxiety. This increase in hormones are also associated with clearer thinking, reduced risk of depression and an increase in self-esteem when you see increases in your fitness levels.
Similarly, getting a good nights sleep is associated with less risk of depression, improving your bodies recovery and improved concentration and productivity throughout the day. Physical and mental wellbeing go hand in hand.
Where physical wellbeing is poor, mental wellbeing will suffer but when your physical wellbeing peaks and sings, your mental wellbeing will hum along.
The College wants to create "A Better You Physically" by providing you advice and guidance on healthy eating, exercise and sleep hygiene, by providing you access to services which can stop you smoking for good and giving you the option to ditch the car through our Cycle to Work Scheme.
