Your eyes are they key to witnessing some of the greatest joys in life so why not take care of them?
Like all other physical aspects of the human body your eyes will change over time and it is important to ensure you keep track of these changes. That includes getting your eyes tested every 2 years and reviewing prescriptions to ensure your vision is the best it could possibly be.
Getting your eyes tested every 2 years can help prevent damage and sight loss.
More than 50% of sight loss is preventable. Getting your eyes tested can help to prevent or limit any damages caused by eye conditions.
Getting checked every 2 years is important in maintaining your vision and ensuring it is corrected to improve your quality of day-day life. The tests can help detected glaucoma, age-related degeneration, cataracts and other irregularities to your usual vision. This in turn can also prevent any accidents relating to poor vision such as trips, bumps and falls.
Tips to keep your eyes healthy!
Stop smoking
Use sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat to protect your eyes from UV rays
Glasses carrying the CS mark ensures they offer a safe level of ultraviolet protection.
Eating well and exercising regularly
Wear safety goggles when necessary e.g. while doing DIY
Don't forget to take regularly breaks when working at a computer screen!

Staff at the Sheffield College are entitled to a free eye test providing they meet the criteria to be deemed a "user", this is determined by the Health and Safety Team.
Once identified as a user, staff must have completed the mandatory online training for display screen equipment and online workstation assessment.

If you are deemed a user and have completed the DSE training, you will be provided on request an electronic voucher via email that can be used at any branch of Specsavers.
The voucher includes a full eye test and offers support with the purchase of glasses for those who are found to require glasses solely and specifically for DSE use.
For those who require glasses for DSE use, the voucher contributes £45, offering you two options:
One complete pair of glasses from the £45 range, fitted with standard single vision lenses plus scratch-resistant treatment when required solely for DSE use
OR
£45 contribution towards an upgrade to other frame ranges and you pay the difference
