One way to incorporate exercise into your daily routines is by cycling to work. Not only is this a healthier and more active option than driving or getting a bus, but helps reduce pollution and congestion.
The Cycle to Work Scheme is a tax and National Insurance free scheme set up by the Government and the Department for Transport to assist in the promotion of healthy travel while reducing pollution.
You will have the opportunity to hire a cycle from the Sheffield College. You can choose a cycle and cycle equipment to the value of between £100 and £2,000.
At the end of the hire agreement you will be given the opportunity to enter a new separate agreement to continue to hire the cycle and equipment. This would be for an indefinite period for the fixed fee of £1 or you can purchase the cycle at a fair market price.
You do not pay tax or National Insurance contributions on the value of the salary you sacrifice for this agreement.
For Example:
If you choose a cycle and safety equipment to the value of £400* and are a lower rate tax payer, you could save up to £128* on the total cost and if you are a higher rate tax payer you could save up to £168.
Payment would comprise of 12 equal (interest free) installments taken from your salary each month.
** Exact savings are subject to your individual tax and national insurance calculations.
