SECTION V
Program Curriculum
Sharyland ISD creates a locally developed guidance and counseling curriculum that addresses the social, emotional, and academic development of all students. Our program curriculum focuses on the following areas: Interpersonal Effectiveness, Intrapersonal Effectiveness, Personal Health and Safety, Postsecondary Education and Career Readiness. In the 2022-2023 school year, an intentional focus in the area of intrapersonal effectiveness was implemented. Below is an overview of the data utilized in determining the lesson, an artifact of the lesson, and details on how we evaluated learning outcomes based on students' knowledge, skills, and/or emotional awareness.
how data was used
During the summer of 2022, a group of district secondary counselors gathered to write curriculum for the high school campuses based on data gathered from the needs' assessments and utilizing resources available to us through a variety of sources including Character Strong. There was an intentional effort in the area of Intrapersonal Effectiveness in means to develop a student's clear sense of self, and understanding individual strengths and weaknesses.

Evaluation of Learning Outcomes
The counseling department holds weekly meetings with the campus leadership team to evaluate the counseling program's effectiveness. Recommendations are put forth to enhance upcoming activities or events. Additionally, the data gathered from the needs' assessments informs the planning of counseling events, activities, academic support, as well as post-secondary planning, and college and career readiness initiatives. Summer curriculum writers are given feedback by the counseling team so adjustments can be made to the SISD Guidance and Counseling curriculum.
how we work with stakeholders
Parents/Family: Parents are one of our most important stakeholders. We provide parent education on a variety of topics, referrals to outside agencies based on family and student needs, academic planning, college/career awareness programs, one-on-one parent conferencing, interpretation of assessment results, assistance with FAFSA/TAFSA applications and college planning.
Teachers: Teachers are one of our greatest resources due to their daily contact with students. We provide them with classroom guidance activities, academic support, including learning style assessments and education to help students succeed academically, classroom speakers, at-risk student identification and implementation of interventions to enhance success, a referral process for students in need, and support for their use of the Character Strong Curriculum.
Administrators: With the assistance of administrators, we are the leaders of the school. We support them with helping create a positive school climate, assisting with behavioral management plans, school-wide needs assessments, student data and results, student assistance team building and crisis intervention.
Students: Students are the reason we became counselors. We provide them with many opportunities to develop through peer education, academic support, developing a positive school climate, Leadership development, Community/Job shadowing, Service Learning, Crisis interventions, Referrals, Support groups, College and Career education.
