The John H. Shary Elementary counseling program establishes its goals through a data-driven, comprehensive approach designed to meet the unique needs of our students, staff, and campus community. Each year, SMART goals are created to focus on targeted areas of academic success, social-emotional growth, and personal development. To ensure these goals are relevant and effective, counselors, administrators, and the Leadership Team collaborate at the close of each school year and the start of the next to review multiple sources of data. This includes the SISD Comprehensive School Counseling Program Assessment, Capturing Kids’ Hearts Needs Assessment, counseling referral c-passes, discipline and attendance records, report cards, classroom observations, and valuable feedback from teachers and parents gathered through individual and group counseling sessions.
By analyzing this information, the John H. Shary counseling team identifies priority areas and develops purposeful goals that strengthen the counseling program, enhance school climate, and promote positive outcomes for all students.
Artifact #5 - Needs Assessment - During 2024-2025 school year, John H. Shary Elementary Counseling team assessed our teachers, students, and parents to determine the effectiveness of our program supports and overall campus needs for the upcoming year. From the data, adjustments were made to our counseling program to better serve our students, staff, and community.
Artifact #5 - CKH Teacher Survey Results - The 2024-2025 CKH End-of-Year Survey provided valuable feedback on implementation, teacher engagement, campus culture and climate, and student social-emotional growth. At John H. Shary Elementary, counselors used this data to identify areas for improvement, including peer relationships, student connectedness, and the strengthening of social-emotional skills. These results guided the development of SMART goals for Individual Planning, System Supports, Guidance Curriculum, and Responsive Services, ensuring that our counseling program remains evidence-based, purposeful, and responsive to the needs of our students, staff, and families.
