Career Standards
The Pennsylvania Career Education and Work Standards describe what students should know and be able to do by the end of their 5th grade school year. The Elementary Guidance Staff have developed lessons and corresponding artifacts that address the following standards. These artifacts are collected at most grade levels with an accumulation of 6 artifacts by the close of a student's 5th grade school year. Standards and artifact development also extend to the following grade bands 6- 8 and 9 - 11.
13.1 Career Awareness and Preparation
Students can explore their abilities and personal interests.
Students understand components that influence career selection.
Students understand the relationship between school and career.
13. 2 Career Acquisition: Getting A Job
Review and learn interviewing skills and how the career acquisition process works.
Students learn about career acquisition documents like a resume.
Students begin developing a career planning portfolio/plan.
13. 3 Career Retention and Advancement
Students understand the importance of developing good work habits: time management, teamwork, and importance of cooperation.
Students understand how to develop a budget.
Students explore workplace changes and what lifelong learning is.
13. 4 Entrepreneurship
Students learn about the risks and rewards of entrepreneurship.
Students learn about the character traits of an entrepreneur.
Students learn about a business plan.
